José-Luis Balao - Compositions flamenco
Jose-Luis Balao (1938 - 2023) was a master of flamenco guitar from Jerez de la Frontera. A prolific composer, he left behind more than 200 works.
As a former student of Balao's and a passionate fan of his work, I continue to play many of his compositions. I am also actively involved in transcribing the hundreds of manuscripts he left behind. In this way, I hope to help spread the word about the poetic and colourful world of this great artist, who oscillates between his Andalusian roots and an unbridled sense of guitaristic exploration.
